The 7th International Conference on Chinese Immersion Education will be held online on February 21-22, 2025. It intends to bring scholars and classroom practitioners together around the theme of “Pedagogies that Transform Chinese Immersion Classroom Instruction”.
The Conference Committee is calling for abstract proposals. Contributions are welcome from different perspectives pertaining to the following topics:
- the acquisition of Chinese and best practices in immersion classrooms,
- content-based instruction of subject areas,
- Chinese immersion curriculum development,
- policy issues related to immersion education,
- parent involvement and support,
- and social attitudes and perceptions.
Besides soliciting submissions from researchers, we specifically encourage the submission of classroom techniques, best practice examples, pragmatic studies, community engagement or collaboration projects, and experience-based reports from practitioners who teach in K-12 Chinese immersion programs/schools.
Submission Guidelines
- Proposal submissions are open to researchers, classroom teachers, graduate students, and administrators in the field of Chinese immersion education inside and outside the USA.
- Proposals may be written in either Chinese or English.

Proposal Types
- Individual papers: They are formal presentations on innovative teaching practices or empirical research findings about Chinese immersion teaching and learning. Each presentation will be around 15 minutes long, and presentations on related topics will be put in one group. After all the presentations in the group are completed, there will be a 10-minute Q&A session.
An individual proposal should include an abstract that does not exceed 300 English words or 450 Chinese characters, including the title of the presentation and contact information of the presenter(s) such as name, affiliation, and email.
- Roundtable discussions: They are suitable for those who would like to demonstrate classroom teaching techniques, seek feedback or suggestions, conduct in-depth discussions about a specific topic between presenters and attendees, or network among participants on shared research interests. Each roundtable session lasts 50 minutes, with three presenters presenting their work consecutively for 10 minutes. The remaining 20 minutes will be used for the three presenters and the attendees to engage in a group discussion.
A roundtable proposal should include an abstract that does not exceed 250 English words or 300 Chinese characters. A specific topic or question should be explicitly included in the abstract.
Proposal Evaluation
Proposals will be evaluated based on
- Clear relevance to the topic of the conference
- Importance and appropriateness of the topics
- Quality of the content in terms of clarity of objectives, coherence, organization, and prospects for a good presentation
